Senior volunteers helping frail adults maintain their independence.
If you are an older adult, or a family member of an older adult, who is looking for the chance to have a companion regularly, we have the program for you. Our volunteers provide information about the many services available to elders in Greater Nashua and ongoing emotional support and friendship for the homebound elder. This program is truly a lifeline to the community.
The meaningful relationships that are built between volunteer and elder provide a sense of personal growth, dignity and respect to the elder and great fulfillment for the volunteer. For many, this may mean they can live in their community longer and avoid or postpone the need for long term care institutionalization.
On a regular basis, companions may provide some of the following to a community elder:
- Social and Recreational Interaction
- Respite Care while you are away
- Information and Resources for individuals and families
- Advocacy, when you need help getting information to someone else
- Nutrition information
- Occasional Transportation
- Emotional Support
To learn more, or if you would like to volunteer to be a Senior Companion and help elders to live more fulfilled lives in our community, please please contact Gateways Community Services.
